Continuing the Dream Through Service

Join us on January 11, 2025, in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through a day of community action, unity, and joy. At MLK Fest Dallas 2025, we’re turning Dr. King’s vision into a reality by making a tangible difference in our neighborhoods.

This year’s festival brings together people from all walks of life to engage in activities that uplift our community and inspire change

Schedule

Morning Activities

8:00 AM: Community Cleanup

• Location: Registration at MLK Parking Lot

• Details: Help us beautify South Dallas by clearing sidewalks, trimming branches,
and mowing grass. Volunteers will be divided into teams to cover different areas of the
neighborhood.

Mural Painting

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Mural Painting & Placemaking with a break for lunch.

• Location: Dub’s Liquor Store

• Details: Join local artists and volunteers to create a mural inspired by the legacy
of Juanita Jewel Craft. This mural will serve as a lasting tribute to her work in the Civil Rights
movement.

Block Party

11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Block Party and Resourses 

Location: MLK Community Center Courtyard

• Lunch prepared and served by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

• Details: Join us for lunch, enjoy local food trucks, and connect with fellow volunteers, community members, and activists. This is a great time to share experiences and
plan for the future.

Outreach

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (or earlier upon completion): Home Improvement Program

• Location: Various homes in South Dallas

• Details: Volunteers will assist with home repairs and improvements for families in need, working in collaboration with Hearts & Hammers. Tasks may include painting, repairs, and
yard work.

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (or earlier upon completion): Outreach to Unsheltered Individuals

• Location: South Dallas Parks & Public Areas

• Details: Partnering with the Office of Homeless Solutions, we’ll distribute meals and essential supplies to unsheltered individuals in the community. Volunteers will be responsible for delivering food, toiletries, and other resources.

311 Reporting

9:00 AM – 2:00 PM (or earlier upon completion): 311 Reporting Blitz with Code Enforcement

• Location: Throughout South Dallas

• Details: Join local volunteers and officials as we conduct a blitz to report community issues to Code Enforcement. Help improve South Dallas by addressing repairs, safety issues, and violations.

Closing Remarks

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM : Closing Event

• Location: MLK Center

• Details: Gather with other volunteers for a reflection on the day’s work, share personal stories of how the event impacted you, and hear from community leaders about how the work will continue after MLK Fest.
